FiberLinkFiberLink is a fiber network planning app for Android, built by CatWave Solutions. This page explains what data the app touches, why, and who else sees it. It covers the app, not just this website.
The short version: your network designs — nodes, splices, splitters, readings — stay on your device. Nothing about your plans is uploaded to us. The parts that do involve data are usage analytics, crash reporting, the ads that keep the app free, and anything you send us directly through the feedback form.
Your fiber plans stay on your device
Every network you build — nodes, cable spans, splitters, logged readings, exported PDFs — is stored locally on your phone. There is no account required to use the app and no server-side copy of your project data. Uninstalling the app removes it.
Account (optional)
You don't need an account to use FiberLink. On first launch, the app creates an anonymous identity through Firebase Authentication so that crash reports and analytics from your device can be told apart from everyone else's, without asking you for anything. If you choose to create an account with an email and password, that credential is handled by Firebase Authentication (Google) — we don't store your password ourselves.
Usage analytics
We use Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) to understand which features get used — things like creating or deleting a network, configuring a splitter, changing your distance-unit preference, or exporting a PDF. These events include coarse usage details (node counts, splitter ratios, feature names) and, for the "network created" event, the name you gave that network.
If you'd rather that name not appear in analytics, avoid using something identifying — a client's address or a person's name — as a network title. A label like "Downtown Zone A" is what the events are built around.
Analytics data is tied to the anonymous (or account) identity above, not to your name, email or phone number, unless you created an account with those details.
Crash reports
We use Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash and error reports if the app misbehaves — stack traces, app version, and basic device/OS information. This is how bugs get found and fixed. It doesn't include your network designs.
Ads
FiberLink is free, and interstitial and app-open ads (served through Google AdMob) support that. AdMob can collect an advertising identifier and ad-interaction data to serve and measure ads, and may personalize them based on your device's ad settings. This is governed by Google's own privacy policy. You can turn off ad personalization for your device in Android's system settings (Settings → Google → Ads).
Location — opt-in, one reading at a time
FiberLink can tag a single reading with your GPS coordinates, but only when you explicitly tap to do so. There's no background location and no continuous tracking — the app doesn't even ask for the permission until that moment. The coordinate is saved into your local project file alongside that reading; it is not sent to us or included in analytics.
Feedback you send us
The in-app "Send Feedback" option opens your own email app, pre-filled to [email protected], with your message plus basic diagnostics (app version, build, OS name and version) so we can reproduce issues. If you attach a screenshot or file, it goes in the same email. We only receive any of this if you actually send the email — composing it doesn't transmit anything by itself.
Device permissions
Storage — to save and export your PDF loss-budget reports to your device.
Location — only when you tap to tag a reading, as above.
Photos — only if you choose to attach one to a feedback message.
Who we share data with
We don't sell your data. The only parties that process it are the infrastructure providers the app runs on: Google/Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config) and Google AdMob. Each operates under its own privacy policy — see Google's Privacy Policy for how they handle data on our behalf.
Data retention
Local project data lives on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Analytics and crash data are retained per Firebase's standard retention periods. To ask us to delete data tied to an account you created, email us at the address below.
Children's privacy
FiberLink is a professional planning tool for network technicians and engineers. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a material way, we'll update the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
